Fish Derby
March 5, 2023 is our Mainprize Fish Derby
We have two fish derby's coming up. January 1st at Nickle Lake and March 5th at Mainprize.
What a great way to bring in the New Year with our 1st Annual Fish Derby at Nickle Lake on January 1st. We had great weather for it too. Set up was on it's way at 8 am getting all the holes drilled and Registration set up. Anglers started showing up early so registration opened, and we registered a total of 76 adult and 24 youth this year. Fireworks started our derby off at 1 pm sharp. And the fishing was on. Wasn’t long before we had people bringing in their catch to the weight station. End of day we had 75 fish brought into the weight station. We did see a few more caught that never got brought in. But it was a great day overall.
We had adult biggest perch, pike and walleye at $400 each. And then youth was biggest perch, pike, and walleye at $100 each. We also had a hidden weight of 2. 80 lbs for a gift certificate to Canadian Tire and Lucy Wright won which was donated by WWF. We also had some door prizes that were donated by the following: Paslawski Baits, Maryanne and Dale Paslawski Farms, PK Lures, and Tytan Ventures.
Winners were as follows in the adult category.
Pike: Martin Johnston - 8 lbs 14.6 oz
Perch: Justin Hay – 13.3 oz - Justin caught this and ran into the station just as the fireworks went off and was the only perch caught that day.
Walleye: Scott Brown - 3 lbs 1 oz
Youth category
Pike: Alex Cutler – 2 lbs 12.8 oz
Walleye: Ayden Warren - 6.4 oz
Perch: No Catch
Thank you so much to all our volunteers that day. For getting up early and spending the day with us. Without each and everyone of you we can’t do these events with such ease. And a big THANK YOU to every one of the anglers that came out to support us we hope you had a great day fishing!
Also a special thanks to Nickle Lake Regional Park for opening the gate and allowing us in the park. They generously did all the snow removal on the road and cleared out areas for parking. Thank you !
